How to play Forty Thieves Solitaire

Start Forty Thieves Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Compare the situation with the worked example. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
