How to play Ludo

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Keep the aim in sight

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Use the control method described here for this activity. Check any mode label before starting.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
