How to play Pyramid Solitaire

Bring your attention to one round of Pyramid Solitaire. Remove all 28 pyramid cards. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Pyramid, stock and waste; one stock recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Keep the aim in sight

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Remove all 28 pyramid cards. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Only uncovered cards are selectable. Pairs total 13; a king removes alone.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

An exposed queen pairs with an ace; a jack pairs with a 2. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
